- Having Meaningful Decor
Today’s post is all about having meaningful decor that makes you feel good! Okay so; picture the big wonderful world of IKEA!
Nice and affordable right? But also, dare I say it? Stale. And even empty?
Yes, I know it’s not literally empty, and they even have a team of people arranging it as a nice assortment of things and knick-knacks that would be nice to have, and yes, amazing organizational items, but the decor lacks that meaning that makes a house a home.
Would you agree? I mean that is exactly why the internet is full of how-tos on hacking Ikea furniture!
At House of Dulce, let me tell you hunn-ay, I understand the importance of infusing your home with decor that resonates deeply within your soul.
That is what I’m here for!
When you incorporate decor into your home in this way, it can act as a powerful reminder of your dreams and goals, or even just give your space a vibe that nurtures your growth.
I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly… are you?
Doesn’t matter, we’re going in!
This Post is All About Having Meaningful Decor at Home!
1. Think About Your Journey
Since we mentioned Ikea, obviously we gotta bring up Sweden, and in turn, HYGGE. One of the best things about Hygge and something that can be taken to heart are those simple moments that encompass life as a whole.
Did your family go on a walk and the kids inevitably came home with a brand new rock collection that they are so excited about?
Or maybe you and your girlfriends took a life-changing trip to Bali, or the local lake even, and you, being your whimsical, lovely, magickal self brought home some sandy sand! (I definitely have sand jars all over my home.)
Take some time to think about these special moments of your life journey, the seemingly small but beautiful experiences, and the monumental moments that have shaped you. Consider the milestones, challenges, and personal growth you’ve undergone. Think about the people, places, or cultural influences that have had a profound impact on your life.
And then incorporate!
Display your kids’ rock collection proudly!
Have the sand bottles on your bookshelf!
Keep those moments around you for as long as they hold meaning for you, in a way that makes sense to you.
2. Explore Your Core Values
Another wonderful way to add meaningful decor to your home is to identify your core values—the principles and beliefs that guide your life.
What do you cherish the most? What ideals do you hold close to your heart?
Your core values serve as a compass, leading you toward decor choices that align with your authentic self.
We’re talking bougie, A E S T H E T I C, “that girl” and we’re talking maximalist, and we’re talking minimalist.
Whatever it and you are, embrace it, and show it off in your home!

3. Connect with Nature
Nature is a rich, yummy source of symbolism and energy.
Consider elements from nature that hold special meaning for you. It could be a specific animal, plant, or natural phenomenon that you feel deeply connected to.
Do you have a spirit animal maybe? Or maybe you’re a girl that loves the forest, or the beach? I’m basic and my go-to’s are plants (and I’ll have you know that they are, in fact, well taken care of).
Integrating nature-inspired decor can create a harmonious and grounding atmosphere in your home.
Wallsauce, in the Pin below, shows a beautiful flower wallpaper that I would use in my meditation corner. It’s beautiful and since, like I said before, I’m a plant girl, it resonates well with me!
4. Meaningful Decor from Personal Objects
Look around your current living space for personal objects that hold sentimental value. Don’t see anything? Make some! When I was remodeling my bathroom I wanted an abstract art piece to bring all the colors together, but I didn’t want just a random print bought online or in-store. No.
So what did I do? I put on some tunes, grabbed a glass of wine, and had my husband and my 5-year-old at the time get together with me and we got to working on a wonderful piece of work! I remember we were laughing, and cracking jokes and my son was so happy to be creating a masterpiece to hang and display with his parents.
Every. Single. Time. Every time that I looked at that canvas, I would be brought back to that wonderful moment for my family and me.
It doesn’t have to be just a painting you create together though, it could be family heirlooms, gifts from loved ones, or souvenirs from meaningful experiences. These objects carry emotional energy and can be integrated into your decor to evoke feelings of nostalgia and love.
Heirloomedblog shows how she displays family photos. This is such a powerful way to keep our ancestors in mind.
5. Seek Inspiration in Art and Culture
Can you say ✨cultured✨?
Explore art, literature, and cultural symbols that resonate with you.
Artwork, symbols, and motifs from different cultures can add a layer of depth and universality to your decor choices. They can also be a celebration of your heritage and identity.
Embrace the beauty of our collective species by keeping that reminder at home. Especially by bringing home beautiful souvenirs after a life-changing trip!
6. Embrace Inspirational Quotes and Affirmations
Identify inspirational quotes and affirmations that uplift your spirit and align with your intentions.
These powerful statements can be displayed as artwork or framed prints, serving as daily reminders of your dreams and aspirations. I’m a vision board type of girl, and let me tell you that most certainly is embraced as a decor item in my home!
If “live, laugh, love” really resonates with you, it’s your house baby, display it proudly!
7. Curate a Mood Board
Create a mood board, honey!
This is a wonderful way to begin because you get to have a feel for what you want the final product of the room to be!
You can use free tools like Canva to upload pictures of your room and the items you wish to incorporate. You can include anything that you want in the room, or if that feels like a big task, begin with a wall!
Your mood board will act as a blueprint for the meaningful decor choices you’ll make.
