Finding joy isn’t about grand gestures; it’s about weaving little moments of delight into daily living.
1. Unveiling Personal Joy Sources
Reflect on moments that once brought you immense joy – whether it’s a childhood passion, a forgotten hobby, or simply basking in nature’s beauty. These sources hold the key to reigniting your sense of wonder.
Sometimes we do get stuck in the grind of every day. It takes some thinking to remember that “Hey, I used to love art in high school, I was actually really good at it!”. Once you take hold of that hobby or that activity that you enjoyed, it really is like a sigh of relief from the soul. A “Finally, we’re home”.
2. Practicing Gratitude Rituals
Acknowledge the small victories, the gentle sunrises, and the kind gestures that grace your days. Begin or end each day by noting down three things you’re grateful for. This practice shifts your focus towards the positives.
You don’t even need to write these down, or even get out of bed for that matter! Rising out of sleep is in and of itself such a gift! You’re alive!
And mmmm, the wonderful coziness of the blankets, such a treat to be grateful for. What else can you think of as soon as you rise out of bed?
3. Mindful Joy: Savoring the Present
Sip your morning coffee and truly taste its warmth. Engaging in mindful activities, like breath work or savoring a meal, anchors you to the present, creating space for joy to bloom.
It’s so hard to sometimes grasp the fact that we only have the present moment. Yes, maybe yesterday was a terrible day but what about now? What about this current moment when you are reading my words on your high-tech device? It’s a nice moment, isn’t it? Embrace the current moment, for that is the only reality that exists in the now.
4. Embracing Connection
We are social creatures, yes even as introverts, we are social creatures. “We need to be part of our tribe” is what our caveman/woman brain thinks.
Even if you live in a home or currently have a job where there is not much positivity or maybe you don’t relate so well to the people around you, the internet has made it so easy to find your tribe. Find people you relate to or share common goals and interests!
Share laughter with a loved one or connect with a friend over a shared memory. Nurturing relationships and fostering connections nourish your soul with joy.
5. Crafting Your Joyful Rituals
Dedicate time to activities that light up your soul – whether it’s reading a book, painting, dancing, or exploring a new place. These rituals infuse your days with pockets of joy.
Oh my god, I love to think back on our camping trips as a family. I love remembering the mountains, our hikes, our dogs swimming. The best part of it all is knowing that there are more trips to come. I can bask in the thought that the future holds room for more memories and beautiful moments to unfold, however, this can be applied to anything that brings you joy, like the things mentioned above.
Maybe even just watching your dog’s ears bounce and flop when you take them on a walk. I know I look forward to that every day. My dog Benny is a godsend.
